MUG SHOT OF THE WEEK
Mug shots of Celebrities - the Famous and the Not-so-Famous...
We have been in the mug shot capture business for a long time. As a result, we have become experts in what makes a mug shot compliant with national standards and what makes a mug shot non-compliant with those standards. Our mug shot capture system is world class, and we spend a lot of time educating law enforcement personnel about how to take good mug shots photographs, but it's impossible to comply 100% of the time. The pop culture phenomenon “Jersey Shore” is known by all. One would be hard-pressed to find someone that has not heard the MTV series that chronicles the high jinx and incidents of this group of Italian-Americans from the New Jersey Shore. Where's the famous bumpitt hair-do now, Snooki??
This mug shot is definitely not NIST-compliant. The 18% grayscale background is missing, as is the required 3-point lighting. While the head and shoulders are prominently shown as they should be, she is angled away from the camera, which shields part of her face. A mug shot capture system could have come in handy here, since maybe the booking officer was too star-struck to concentrate his efforts on a proper mug shot.
